On this particular day the majority of the Marken population still dresses up in their ancient costume, even though the many coloured elements are then replaced by yellow and orange. All little children are also in their traditional array on that day and in the narrow streets around the church is the busy bustle of a free market. On 1997 Queen Beatrix herself put the feasting island of Marken on her programme. The islanders are very royalist-minded and Queensday is celebrated exuberantly every year. The streets are all decorated orange and there´s music and happy faces everywhere.
